Lasers have revolutionized aesthetics. Thanks to these FDA-cleared, safe, high-energy devices that selectively target areas of your body and face that you want to improve, you can do everything from lift sagging skin to permanently remove unwanted hair.

Though you can book a laser treatment at any time of year, winter is arguably the best season to start working on the new you.

Our expert team at The Center for Dermatology Cosmetic & Laser Surgery has outlined some of the most effective laser treatments we offer, and why now is the ideal time to gift yourself with laser treatments.

Some treatments take time

Though laser therapy dramatically changes the way you look and feel, depending on what you need done, you may need a series of treatments. The most common aesthetic treatments that require more than one laser session are:

  • Hair removal
  • Lesion and brown spot removal

In the case of hair removal, we must target your hairs while they’re in their earliest growth stage. Your hairs, of course, all grow at different rates. You may need a series of up to six treatments to completely remove your unwanted facial or body hair.

Treating brown spots, vascular lesions, and visible veins may also require more than one laser session to get the results you want. We give you a realistic estimate of your timeline when you come for your first consultation.

It’s easier to avoid the sun

In addition to getting a buffer of time that allows you to unveil completely hair-free legs or arms on the beach, winter also removes one of the temptations to good laser results: sun.

To keep your skin healthy and strong, and to avoid further sun damage, it’s best to avoid direct sunlight when you’re getting laser treatments.

Ironically, the light energy from the lasers undoes the light-damage from the sun’s rays. While on holiday, or just after, you can treat yourself to a fresh new look by using lasers to:

  • Lift and firm sagging skin
  • Remove brown spots and age spots
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Thicken skin and make it more flexible

If you’re using lasers to create a nonsurgical face-lift, even out your skin tone, or remove vascular lesions or brown spots from your face, you still must use sunscreen daily.

But if you’re removing hair from your legs you won’t have to slather sunscreen there, because they’re bundled in pants, tights, or leggings.

Avoid the sun between 10am and 4pm, when its rays are strongest. Wear a wide-brimmed hat whenever you’re outdoors, and sunglasses, too. (You’ll look like an A-list celebrity; they always protect their skin from the sun.)

We recommend medical-grade skin care that’s gentle enough to use after your laser treatment, and safe, gentle, broad-spectrum sunscreens.
